Fiscal Note

The repair costs will be billed to the Streets Division through the 2016 Fleet rate. Costs will be absorbed within the Streets 2016 Adopted Operating budget.

Title

Authorizing Fleet Services to spend up to $55,000 to repair truck 4307 which was badly damaged in an accident.

Body

WHEREAS, truck 4307 is used to service large collection bins that are used at special events, parks and Streets Division drop off sites to collect a wide variety of materials; and,

 

WHEREAS, these large bins are in very  public locations that require the bins to be moved and/or emptied quickly and truck 4307 is one of only two trucks which can perform these functions and two trucks are needed to insure that these duties are performed in a timely fashion; and,

 

WHEREAS, truck 4307 has at least 2 years of active  service time  remaining and that the current replacement cost is estimated to be $225,000 with a one year lead time for building the replacement; and,

 

WHEREAS, given the critical need  to truck 4307 and the high cost of a replacement  and the length of time to procure a replacement staff  believes that it is  both necessary and  cost effective to repair truck 4307; and,

 

WHEREAS, 4307 is an International brand truck which was purchased from Lakeside International and that Lakeside International is the authorized repair center for International trucks in the area; and,

 

WHEREAS, Fleet Services recommends that this repair be done on a  sole source basis with Lakeside International and  has the funds necessary for the repair in its operating budget,

 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Fleet Services is authorized to spend up to $55,000 to repair truck 4307.
